DR. RAPOSO's THEORETICAL FOUNDATION

(1) Humanistic & Existential Psychology
(2) Phenomenological / Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
(3) Gestalt Therapy
(4) Cognitive-Behavior / REBT
(5) Family Systems
(6) Energy Psychology

Dr. Raposo adopts an INTEGRATIVE theoretical foundation endorsing the following bodies of propositions of human behavior and nature:

The integration of these theories allows Dr. Raposo the skills and tools to relate, respect and accept the many unique variations of human existence as well as extremely important cultural differences (Humanistic & Existential Theories).

In addition, the reality of many LIFE PASSENGERS™ (clients), insurance companies, and mental health state programs require professionals to often be Solution-oriented and effective with a brief approach assessment and treatment. This task is accomplished by the principles inherent in Solution-Focused & Brief Therapies which endorses a Phenomenological approach to a client's immediate needs while focusing on what & how is useful for them now.

The Gestalt Theory is a holistic approach valuing the experiential field and focusing on present awareness of "what is".  Thus, it endorses a strong reality based approach to accepting, resolving and healing.  Among other advantages of Gestalt is its emphasis on moving a client from talking to action and experience.  Its approach of seeing therapists as facilitators of change is supported by its effective processes such as empty chair, internal dialogue, the rehearsal and reversal techniques.

The strong and effective body of knowledge from the Cognitive-Behavioral Theory empowers LIFE PASSENGERS™ with both an understanding and effective treatment of dealing with the influence of one's thinking, feelings, behaviors and environment on ones’ perspectives and expectations of themselves, others and their world.  There is scientific research confirming the validation of this approach to treating some of the DSM-IV diagnoses such as depression, anxiety and PTSD.

The Family Systems perspective is integrated and woven within the other four theoretical foundations. As a multi-cultural therapist, Dr. Raposo honors cultural differences by endorsing a phenomenological, humanistic, and existential approach, as well as recognizing the Gestalt experiential field of LIFE PASSENGERS™. Humans are then viewed holistically in their field of all of their life experiences (family, childhood, thinking, feeling, behavior, dreams and environment).

Finally, Dr. Raposo endorses the body, mind, and spirit paradigm and applies the knowledge of Energy Psychology. Through her ACU-PSY™ treatment approach (integrating acupuncture and hypnosis) Dr. Raposo addresses the relationship of energy systems to emotion, cognition, behavior and health.
